WEST OF SCOTLAND LEAGUES - Lanarkshire beat Ayrshire in weather affected opening week

The opening week of the West Of Scotland inter county league fixtures was affected by the weather, with a number of matches being postponed on Sunday 15th September.

Lanarkshire started their West of Scotland A-Team league with a 4.5-3.5 win against Ayrshire at a windswept and wet Drumpellier GC.

The match was close throughout and actually went to the last putt of the last match, Danny Keeney of Bellshill securing the match-winning half after a brave fight back from Gary Bryden of Girvan who made birdies at 16 and 17 to take the match to the final hole, just missing with his attempt on the final green to win his tie and half the match overall.

Match details (Lanarkshire names first)

Craig Ross (Kirkhill) lost to Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert) by 1 hole
Robert Jenkins (Crow Wood) lost to Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) by 3 and 1
Steven Rennie (Drumpellier) beat Gordon Boyle (Turnberry)  by 4 and 3
Ross Hinshelwood (East Kilbride) beat Stephen Spence (Royal Troon) by 4 and 3

Kenny Gallacher (East Kilbride) beat John Rushbury (Rowallan Castle) by 1 hole

 LANARKSHIRE 4.5  AYRSHIRE 3.5

The corresponding Youths team match was scheduled to take place at Troon Portland but, despite the course being open for play, Lanarkshire elected not to travel down to the Ayrshire course and the match was awarded to Ayrshire.

The Stirlingshire Vs Glasgow A team match at Falkirk Tryst was postponed due to flooding causing the course to be closed whilst the corresponding Youths team match at Cathcart Castle also fell victim to the weather due to the closure of the course.

The Dumbartonshire A team match against Renfrewshire at Kirkintilloch was also a victim of the weather as was the corresponding Youths match at Ranfurly Castle.
