WEST OF SCOTLAND MENS STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Loudoun hosts new 36 hole event
After an absence of 12 years, the six West Of Scotland Area Associations have agreed to reintroduce a West Of Scotland Mens Strokeplay Championship in 2016, with the new event being hosted this year by Ayrshire at Loudoun Gowf Club on Sunday 22nd May.
The West Of Scotland Championship can trace its origins back to 1950's, but by 2004 the event, along with the West Of Scotland Team Trophy competition, was discontinued under the banner of the West Of Scotland Association, which was wound up soon after.
Ayrshire, Dumbartonshire, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Stirlingshire did continue to hold the West Of Scotland Boys Championships on a rotational basis after the demise of the West Of Scotland Association, and after discussion last year it was resolved by all six areas to reintroduce a Mens Strokeplay Championship, to be hosted in turn by each area.
The 2016 championship, sponsored by Glasgow based company, The Legal Partnership, will be played at Loudoun Gowf Club, Galston on Sunday 22nd May.
The event is open to any golfer, with a handicap of 5 or less, who is a member of a club affiliated to any of the six West Of Scotland areas. The entry fee is £15 and there will be a number of prizes awarded, on a scratch basis, for the 36 hole championship.
Entries will be limited to 81 players, balloted on handicap on the closing date, if required.
Entry forms should be available through club secretaries, and can also be downloaded , via the appropriate link, on the Ayrshire Golf Association web page at
